Turkish Kangal Care
- Maintenance: The Turkish Kangal has a short to medium-length, dense coat with an undercoat that protects it from extreme climates. Its maintenance is moderate. Brushing 1 or 2 times a week is recommended to remove dead hair and keep the coat clean. Bathing can be done every 6 to 8 weeks or when the dog is truly dirty.
- Brushing and combing: For its care, it is recommended to use a firm-bristle brush, an undercoat rake, or a rubber glove to help remove loose hair and dirt. During shedding seasons, especially in spring and autumn, it is advisable to increase brushing to several times a week to control hair loss.
- Haircut: The Turkish Kangal does not require a haircut. Its coat should be kept natural, removing only dead hair through brushing. In some cases, a small hygienic trim can be done on the paws or areas where the hair sticks out.
- Special attention: It is important to regularly check the ears, monitor dirt buildup on the neck and areas where the coat is denser, and watch the skin during shedding seasons. It is also advisable to check paw pads and nails, especially in dogs that live outdoors or work on hard terrain.
- Recommended grooming appointments: Bath every 6 to 8 weeks and maintenance sessions every 8 weeks to control shedding, general hygiene, nail checks, and ear cleaning.
