Whippet Care
- Maintenance: The Whippet has very short, fine hair that lies close to the body, so its maintenance is low. It is recommended to brush it once a week to remove dead hair and maintain the coat’s natural shine. Bathing can be done every 4 to 6 weeks or when the dog is really dirty.
- Brushing and combing: For its care, it is sufficient to use a rubber glove, a soft-bristle brush, or a massage mitt that helps remove loose hair without irritating the skin. Brushing also stimulates the skin and distributes the coat’s natural oils.
- Hair trimming: does not require hair trimming. Its coat naturally stays short, so maintenance consists only of brushing to remove dead hair and small hygienic touch-ups if needed.
- Special attention: Due to its thin, sensitive skin, it’s important to watch for possible irritations or small wounds. It’s also advisable to check the ears regularly, keep the nails trimmed, and monitor the condition of the paw pads after walks or physical activity.
- Recommended grooming appointments: Bath every 4 to 6 weeks and maintenance sessions every 6 to 8 weeks for general hygiene, nail check, ear cleaning, and monitoring skin condition.
Want the best care for your Whippet?
We show you the 3 steps you need to follow to achieve it.
1. BRUSHING AND COMBING
- The Whippet has a very short, fine, soft coat that requires little care. Weekly brushing with a rubber glove or soft-bristle brush is enough to remove dead hair and keep the coat clean.
- This brushing also helps stimulate the skin and distribute the coat’s natural oils, maintaining its shine.
- During shedding seasons, the brushing frequency can be increased to twice a week.

2. BATH
- The Whippet can be bathed approximately every 4 to 6 weeks with a mild shampoo, preferably for sensitive skin or short-haired dogs.
- It’s important to rinse the product out thoroughly and dry the body completely after the bath, as its thin skin can be sensitive to moisture or temperature changes.
- When a bathtub isn’t available, no-rinse products are an excellent option.

- It’s also recommended to maintain good dental hygiene through brushing or specific products to prevent tartar buildup.
- Checking the paw pads and skin after physical activity helps detect possible irritations or small injuries.
