Caring for your Shih Tzu
- Maintenance: Brush 3 times a week and bathe every 14 days.
- Brushing: Frequent brushing is recommended to maintain a knot free coat. Always work with tools and products that you know will not damage the coat.
- Haircut: This is a long haired breed, with a parting down the middle of the back that allows the rest of the hair to fall down on either side in a curtain with only the ends trimmed down when they reach the ground. The topknot is often decorated with a bow.
- Special Attention: Due to the length of the coat it is prone to tangling, make sure to keep it well moisturised to prevent dryness which leads to breakage and tangling.
Recommended Grooming Appointments: It is important to visit the grooming salon every 6 to 8 weeks for a bath, brush and trim to avoid accumulation of knots and tangles.

What is the Shih Tzu like?
The Shih Tzu is a small, elegant dog breed, originally from China. These dogs are known for their friendly and affectionate personality, and are often a good choice for families with children and small homeowners.
The Shih Tzu is an active and curious dog that enjoys playing and walking, but is also a relaxed and calm companion that adapts well to flat living.
Despite its small size, the Shih Tzu is a brave and confident dog that is not afraid to defend its family. His long silky hair requires regular grooming, but this is a small price to pay for having a faithful companion and friend at home.
